An Overview of Class UX Research
Project: Remini
Using Mixed-Method Research Methodologies for Strategy
As the lead UX Researcher for a class project, I decided to focus on the mobile app Remini.

Remini is a classroom communication app geared towards families and educators. While they have mid to high levels of ratings and many features to assist parents, usability issues stopped both target groups (Caregivers and Teachers) from utilizing these features.

Teachers and Caregivers wished Remini offered certain features, but wait!

Was Remini doing this already?

Well, kind of…
Caregivers and preschool Teachers were unable and unwilling to spend time watching How-To videos and reading articles to learn about Remini.

Research Methods:

  • user interviews

  • heuristics evaluation

  • competitive analysis

  • screeners

  • secondary research reviews

User Pain Points:
  • Lack of findability in getting help or troubleshooting
  • Lack of confirmation with images, private messages, etc, leading to anxiety around security
  • Busy teachers have no extra time for Remini troubleshooting during a busy classroom day
  • Parents want to spend extra time with their families and friends, showing pictures of their babies and not figuring out Remini functions

Communication Data:

In screeners, only 7.7 % of teachers and 33.3% of caregivers used products like Remini.

Other than opportunities for in-person communication, 100% of the interviews conducted reflected a desire to use school communication apps for indirect communication, but 83% expressed wishing Remini specifically had certain offerings to decrease the need for supplemental methods alongside it (emails, notes, phone calls, text messages.

Possible Next Steps:
More user testing after implementing more in-depth heuristics and quality assurance.
User testing should be targeted for busy classroom settings, work, and home day-to-day life.
